So a couple of weeks ago I was given 8 mini packs of Sugru from my friends at Urban Bushcraft. Sugru is a self setting rubber that has 1000s of uses (apparently), I had seen this stuff advertised but I always thought it was a bit over priced for what it was (8 Mini Packs – £12.99), so I had never purchased any. However when Urban Bushcraft turned round and said there you go have 8 mini packets for free to play with I thought I would give it a go. So all I needed now was a problem to fix…..
My Problem – Apple iPod Headphones
My iPod headphones had started to come apart at the junction (as seen below), however they were still working as it was only the outer sheath that had come away.
So I thought lets put this Sugru to the test and see if it can solve my problem and hopefully save my Apple iPod headphones.
My first step was to read the instructions on the back of the packet. (Makes a change to read these first)
From looking at the instructions I thought that this seems rather easy so I decide to open one of the blue packets.
Inside the packet is a blue sticky substance that looks and feels like play-doh. Once opened I started to roll the Sugru as shown in the instructions. (My fingers did go a bit blue but it was easy to clean off with warm soapy water)
Once it was rolled I had 30 mins to apply and form it before it started to go hard.
I managed to shape the sugru round the headphones to protect the cable where it had come apart. Once it was shaped I left them hanging up to let the sugru cure for 24 hours.
After 24 hours the Sugru had set and yes it had solved my problem. I have continued to use my headphones and the repair has been working brilliantly.
I would say that overall it is a good product and is very easy to use and apply, it looks good and feels good once it has cured. Looking back it is probably worth the money as it has the possibility of solving so many different problems. Defiantly worth keeping some in your survival tin or bushcraft pack and for use around the house or man cave. Now I need to find some more use’s for the other 7 packs I have.
Thanks for the freebie Urban Bushcraft
